Accomplishment!

Ella just looked at me and clearly counted to 11 with such confidence! She has been playing around with the sequence of numbers recently, but I couldn't believe how easily she went from 1 to 11 tonight. I learned recently that she knows almost all of her letters by site too. My friend Bonnie gave us a beautiful alphabet book when she's was a baby and we've been reading it for 2 years now. She's known what the pictures are for a long time, but now she identifies the letters. She's working on colors and is pretty good with red, blue, and green. She even likes to teasingingly tell me that red things are pink with a grin. Right now she's singing her "ABC's" for me. What a fun age!

That's FABULOUS--what is she, two? I have second graders that still get hung up on number sequence. And the fact that she has some letter recognition is great. I bet she becomes an early reader. Actually just because of the fact that your house seems like it is pretty heavily steeped in a culture of reading will probably put her in the precocious reader category. Does she recognize that people from left to right and which direction you turn pages yet? Those are some tell tale signs of reading readiness as well.

That shoud be "read from left to right".

We have been reading with her since she was tiny. It's so fun to walk into her room and see her on the floor surrounded by books. She does turn the pages from left to right and has always generally been really delicate with books. Often, we'll read to her, then she takes the book and "reads" to us. She does it by pictures and because she remembers some of the context of the story. So cute!

She sounds like she's ready and on her way to be becoming a reader. She might be still too young for this, but there's this great website called Starfall.com you should check out--interactive reading games: http://www.starfall.com/
Also, this next one I'm positive she will appreciate now and it's one of my favorites: http://www.bemboszoo.com/Bembo.swf

Hey, I meant to ask you, where do you get all the fun background patterns for your blog?
